Season Analysis: Dimitar Berbatov

No, it hasn’t been the season he had hoped for, but still overall it has been a good season. Criticised for being lazy, Berbatov is nothing like that, but instead if a workman like player who has the ability to link up play, and also be able to succeed create and score goals.

He may have just nine league goals to his name, but when Berbatov arrived at Old Trafford, scoring goals was not his only asset. In fact, after Robin van Persie, the Bulgarian forward has assisted the most goals (10) in the Premier League. He even finished fourth in the overall Actim index (official player rating system of the EPL) with 586 points, with his 652 passes the eighth most in the league.

His main strengths include his work rate, his finishing at times, passing, link up play, skill on and off the ball and tracking back. Berbatov main weakness, may be his composure in front of goal meaning he doesn’t get as much goals as he could have.

Ratings: Workrate (8 out of 10), skill (9), passing (8), finishing (7), speed (6).
Overall 38 out of 50

he reminds mi of mister cantona. same celebration, same style same eye for goal. this season he wil shake defenses no doubt…comon berbaaaaaaa so them u r worth……

  2. Rob, Manchester says :

    passing 8
    shooting 4
    jumping 6
    heading 5
    tackling 7
    workrate 6
    pace 6
    strength 8
    skill 8
    mentality 5

    63/100

thats a far more accurate reflection of just how average he’s been. if he’d been as good as you were claiming fergie wouldn’t have dumped him on the bench for 3 the most important games of the season in the competition in a competition he is desperate to win. rooney is far better second striker. berbatov is clearly not a £31m player. we need a new striker, fergie will sign benzema.

  3. Zareef says :

    Passing 9
    skill 9
finishing (did not have many chances in goal) 7
heading 7(only one important header against bolton)
tackling 5( once in a while steals the ball and surprising)

Speed 6 He can run, i’ve seen it! But I guess fergie say ROnaldo and Rooney are there to run

Despite beeing a berba fan I have to say……

    75/100

  4. Rite$h says :

he was bought to score goals like a striker does, but instead saw him play more like a CAM, with all his passing and assists rather than scoring. he has the talent, but lacks pace and commitment expected from a striker, and no tackling ability. May be he should actually play like a midfield, and SAF must buy a real striker.

    my rating: 70/100

  5. The Brain says :

He plays as a support striker and likes to link play from midfield. Maybe he should be more committed to playing higher but that’s where his skills lie. He could have been good playing a Totti role but as it is Sir Alex has found it recently that he doesn’t fit in with the team play.

Things could change next season, as he is a top player.

  6. Hakan says :

I find it diffficult to analyse Berba’s season. Most of the stats are good and I love his style but still something has been missing. Hopefully he’ll take more of centre stage, a la Cantona, next season.

  7. Dave Anthony says :

not the best debut season for a Manchester United player, another season of the same and he will almost certainly be out of the door.
