Man Utd vs Bolton: A Tactical View

Man Utd won their second game of the season against a determined Bolton who stuck to their game plan and made United fight hard.

Beating Bolton 2-0 was a good result considering how much players that they had behind the ball.

Beating Bolton 2-0 was a good result considering how much players that they had behind the ball. They had a remarkable nine white shirts attempting to defend a Carlos Tevez cross early on.

Bolton again had nine behind the ball and limited passing options for United. They did very well to close them down and their gameplan was to counter United attacks.

Carlos Tevez and Berbatov did not get enough freedom as Bolton defended in numbers. Ronaldo, though showed why United missed him as his tireless runs caused problems for the defence. He scored the penalty and brilliantly assisted Rooney with a backflick. Bolton had less shirts back when they were a goal down and Rooney took advantage as he made a good run and when Evra found Ronaldo, Ronaldo flicked it back to Rooney who was in a good position, he turned and curled in the second. Sub Rooney did also seem to combine well with Berbatov when he came on.
